About Me
Hi, my name is Kendall Silva. I have enjoyed a long career in management and am looking forward to starting my next chapter in data analytics and user experience.
I am excited to bring over 15 years of experience and skill to this new role. I may be new to the UX job titles, but I am not new to solving problems, communicating difficult concepts in an easy-to-understand manner, building relationships with clients, customers, team members, and vendors, presenting complex topics in memorable ways, and using data to guide decisions.
In fact, my history in retail management and teaching science have both contributed greatly to my foundation in data analytics.
As a retail manager, I constantly study P&L sheets, create budgets, analyze sales data to identify opportunities for growth, manage inventory, and more. While I spent a lot of my time looking over spreadsheets, I spent the most valuable time creating spreadsheets to evaluate and track my employees' growth in several metrics. One of the most important parts of this process was sharing the data with the employee and then giving them an action plan, as needed, and communicating results. Because of my ability to use data to guide action, I was able to consistently raise the standards of the locations I managed.
As a teacher, data was my number one indicator of success. Students either earned passing scores, or they did not. Not only did I use data to evaluate how much the students already know, but I used visualizations to track progress and growth. I could use the students' rate of growth to determine my lesson plans by focusing on areas that needed the most improvement, and then testing again to ensure that the lessons were working. I mastered this process to the point where, in only my second year teaching, I broke the school's passing rate record for the standardized and state administered 8th grade science test (STAAR).
Now that I have broadened my technical skills in SQL, R, and Tableau by completing the Google Data Analytics Certification course, I am very eager to take one of my favorite parts of my previous career and pivot it into my new career in analytics and UX Research!
Continue below to learn a little more about who I am, and then be sure to check out my PORTFOLIO.
Austin College
BA in Psychology - Austin College was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I learned so much about life, academics, charity, and myself! I went on to earn an MA in Psychology from Argosy University.
My Adventure Buddy
One of my favorite things to do is go on camping or hiking adventures with my dad.
FUN FACT: He recently retired from a career in data analytics and software consulting, and has been a huge help during my studies.
My Puzzle Buddy
I have a HUGE passion for puzzles, codes, and strategy games. I certainly get this excitement and curiosity from my mom. She is my number one when I have a new puzzle that needs testing.
Big Projects
I love taking on new challenges. One of my current projects is building out this campervan!
Photography
While I am no expert, I do enjoy taking interesting pictures of interesting places.
Heritage
Both of my parents were raised in California, and I have so much family history there. My fraternal grandmother grew up in this lighthouse (Point Arena), which I got to visit recently (2022).
I can fly!
I fell in love with flying in a wind tunnel the first time I tried it. I overcame a fear and ended up with a passion.
Chihuahua Life
Chihuahua life IS life. Bonny and Jack are my tiny bears and cuddle champions!
...I don't do Yoga
But I enjoy pretending I do.
